How can I get out of Australia without paying the earth???

I want a flight this month to the UK, I have found a cheap(ish) ticket from Bangkok to London but I cannot find anything remotely cheap from Australia to Bangkok. I know it is always expensive from oz to …anywhere, but it’s becoming ridiculous. I can get a cheap flight (all year except Xmas) from Uk to Oz – using the same airline and it is so much cheaper (almost half price). I use to be an ‘expert’ at getting cheap flights but since living in oz – I’m stumped!! Anyone know of how or where I can get a cheap ticket to Asia – I have tried my usual carrier Airasia, but it’s expensive unless you book way ahead!
Thx – but you have to add around $550 for taxes plus my 2 flights from Brisbane to Sydney – so it still works out to $2000 +

It would help if you defined what you think is cheap. Usually you will be looking at between $1500 – $2000 to get a flight out of Australia to London. As far as I am aware there isn’t a way around this. That’s what happens when we live at the end of the earth.
